Ilya Utekhin (b. 1968 in Leningrad) is a Russian social anthropologist and artist currently based in Denmark. He came to painting from visual anthropology, that is, from using a camera to study cultural worlds. This site presents a selection of his paintings made in recent years, including works in oil and mixed media on canvas and board. Utekhin's painting practice continues his long‑standing interest in everyday spaces, observation, and the material traces of social life.
